Watsu
What is Watsu
Watsu is a very gentle and soothing massage that takes place in a warm, waist deep swimming pool. The name Watsu comes from the words water and shiatsu.
History of Watsu
It was developed by Harold Dull back in 1980, when he started applying Zen Shiatsu stretches to students floating in the warm pool at Harbin Hot Springs in California.
Typical Watsu Session
Watsu is done in a warm, quiet, waist deep swimming pool. Floats are placed on the feet and hands of the client. The client and practitioner both wear bathing suits and the client is cradled and carried through the water by the practitioner. A series of gentle stretches and twirling are performed on the client which are profoundly relaxing. It is a relatively difficult service to find but is most often practiced at resort spas and in Calfornia.
Watsu Training
Classes in Watsu are taught at The Watsu Institute at The School of Shiatsu and Massage at Harbin Hot Springs in Middletown, CA, http://www.learnwatsu.com/watsu/waterclasses.htm.
