Thai massage is a type of bodywork that combines compression and passive stretching.

History of Thai Massage

Thai massage is believed to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, physician to Buddha, more than 2,500 years ago in India, and then gradually made its way into Thailand.

Typical Thai Massage Session

The client is fully clothed and lies on a mat on the floor. A series of stretches are performed on the client which can feel like getting a yoga session without doing any of the work. A series of compressions are also applied to the muscles. No oil or lotion is used.

Thai Massage Training

There are schools in the United States that teach Thai Massage and many practitioners actually travel to Thailand to study Thai massage.
