What is Chair Massage

Chair massage is a massage technique where the client is fully clothed and seated in a specially designed massage chair. This is often done in office buidlings and at events.

History of Chair Massage

Chair massage gained popularity in the 1980s due to the work of David Palmer. David Palmer is the inventor of chair massage. In 1986 he invented the first massage chair. He wanted to make massage more affordable, convenient and accessible to the masses, not just the smaller number of people who would go and get full body massages.

Typical Chair Massage Setting

Chair massage can take place anywhere; office buildings, events, parties, shopping malls, subway stations, etc. It requires very little space and the client is fully clothed so it does not have to be in a private room. The main areas of the body that are focused on are the back, neck, arms and hands. Massage lotion is not used. Traditional pressure point Shiatsu techniques are used. The Swedish Massage technique of tappotment is often used also.
